Passing of the Baton
AGM & Handover:
The 2019 AGM was held on December 14 and welcomed a new President, Shehan Vilathgamuwa to lead the OBU for the next 2 years. It was great to see Cliff Joachim and Guinn Ragel who were present in 1991 when the first OBU meeting was held, turn up at this AGM too. It was equally nice to see some “young” Peterites attend their first AGM. We also had former Presidents of the OBU and Committee members attend this event, organised at short notice. Thank you all for attending this AGM.
Remembrance Service – November 10, 2019
This was the 4th Remembrance Service that was organised by the Old Peterites to celebrate the lives of the deceased staff and past pupils of both Holy Family Convent and St Peters College.
We were fortunate to, once again, have Old Peterite Rev Fr Isuru Weliwatte mgl celebrate mass in the Canisius College Jesuit Chapel. The choir led by Harsha Weerakody and Nipuna Dias, supported by Dinease Fernando, on the organ (wife of old Peterite Dinuka, niece of old-Peterites Edgar, Claude and Vernon) and past pupils of HFC and SPC sang beautifully. The congregation of around 100 also joined in the singing and filled the Chapel with beautiful sounds.
No event will be complete without “Food” – this year we sought the contributions of the attendees who, if able, were asked to “bring a plate”. They certainly brought plates loaded with food and the Peterite/Familian families enjoyed the feast and the beautifully manicured gardens of Canisius College.

October Spectacular – October 5, 2019
The Old Peterites Fund Raiser held on October 5, 2019, was Spectacular in every sense of the word.
For what was advertised by the Old Peterites OBA as their bi-annual “low key fund raiser” (as opposed to their glitzy fund raising event that bookends this event), the guests were treated to the best that Sydney had on offer at any Dinner-Dance.
The Hall was decorated with table centres with Blue orchids, white flowers and yellow roses matched the Peterite colours.
MC Senani Gunasekera kept the evening moving with hardly any interruption. OBA President Amal Wahab welcomed the guests and reminded all that the Fund Raiser was held for the Scholarship Fund that has been run by the St Peters College OBA of Sydney, NSW, for 11 years.
There was non-stop music from Sydney’s leading dance band Jetfire, DJ Shankster, and Guest Artist – the Reggae maestro Trevin Joseph. The dance floor was always packed with the dancers showing off their dance moves (and some new ones) to the fantastic dance music. The only break came when the floor was cleared for the Peterites to sing the College Anthem – what an emotional rendition that was!

March – Friendship Cup Cricket Tournament
We competed in the 12 school limited over Cricket gala and exited in the Semi-Finals, where we were narrowly defeated by Ananda College, the eventual winners of this competition.

February – Saints Quadrangular Cricket Tournament
We didn’t achieve a Three-Pete in 2019, but we won the Joe-Pete (again) defeating the Old Joes convincingly scoring 118 in our allotted 12 overs, to which the Old Joes were restricted to just 85 runs.
Senarath Seneviratne was awarded the best Batsman for the tournament with an average of 85 runs scored in only 24 balls!
